As AI Grows, Human Connection Is Becoming a Founder’s Strongest Advantage

AI is now part of almost every area of business, from writing and marketing to customer service and image creation. It is helping companies work faster, but it is also making a lot of brands look and sound remarkably similar.

And I think that is exactly why the human side of a business matters more than ever.

The more automated everything becomes, the more we seem to crave something real.

People still want to know who is behind the business. They want to know who they are trusting, buying from and listening to. I work with female founders and business owners who want to become more visible online without looking over-produced or unlike themselves.

And one thing I have noticed is that personal branding is changing. It is no longer just about having a polished headshot or a set of nice photographs for LinkedIn.

For many founders, they are the business. Their personality, their voice and the way people feel about them are part of the reason someone chooses to work with them.

Why does personal branding matter more in the age of AI? As AI makes it easier to create polished content quickly, looking professional is no longer enough on its own.

What becomes harder to replicate is the person behind the brand: their personality, point of view, expressions, experience and the way they connect with people. That is why I believe personal branding is becoming more important, not less.

A strong personal brand gives people someone to recognise and remember.

It puts a human face behind the business. What does this mean for founders? It means showing up. Not constantly. Not performatively. And certainly not pretending to be someone you are not.

It means allowing people to see enough of you to understand who is behind the business.

Your photographs are part of that.

When I plan a personal branding shoot, I am not simply thinking about whether the photograph looks good.

I am thinking about what it communicates.

What are you wearing? Where are you being photographed? How do you want people to feel when they see you?

Who are you trying to connect with? Where will these photographs actually be used? That might be your website, LinkedIn, PR, a speaker profile, social media or marketing material.

All of those decisions help create a visual identity that feels like you rather than a generic version of what a “professional” is supposed to look like.

Why does authenticity matter so much now?

I hear the same things from clients all the time: “I hate having my photo taken.” “I don’t like photographs of myself.” “I just want to look like me, but better.” And I think that last one says everything.

Most people are not asking to be transformed into somebody else. They want to look like themselves on a very good day. Confident. Comfortable. Polished. But still recognisably them. That desire for authenticity becomes even more important in a world where generated imagery and automated content are becoming normal. Can professional photographs still feel human? Absolutely.

Professional does not have to mean stiff, corporate or over-produced. A huge part of my work is helping people stop thinking about the camera.

I guide expression, posture, body language and movement, but I am also looking for genuine reactions and moments when someone stops “performing” for the photograph.

In my TEDx talk, The Secret to Looking Good in Photos, I talk about the psychology behind expression and how we connect emotionally in front of the camera.

That same approach runs through my personal branding work. The goal is not perfection. It is connection.

Your personal brand is becoming proof of the person behind the business One of the great things about AI is that it can make business more efficient.

But trust is still human. People still connect with people. They still remember faces, stories, personalities and how someone made them feel.

So perhaps the more technology becomes part of our businesses, the more important it becomes to make sure we do not disappear behind it. Your personal brand is not separate from your business anymore. For many founders, it is one of the reasons someone decides to work with them.

And in a world where more and more can be automated, being visibly human may become one of the strongest advantages you have
